BPE Exhibitions - LAST CALLS

Winchester BPE National Salon 2022

Breaking with tradition (habit of a lifetime?) we are announcing when this one opens, tomorrow 1 May, as well as when it "closes", Thursday 30 June (see below for the reason why); Acceptances count towards the BPE Distinctions.

5 PDI sections: (Pictorial) Colour - (Pictorial) Mono - Nature - Creative - Scapes (up to 3 images per section maximum)
As ever, check the Rules for what they are looking for in each category.
1600 x 1200 - note that this is a reduction from last year's widescreen format of 1920 x 1200.
£6 minimum (for 4) then £1.50 per image.

Catalogue is provided on a CD.

Quirk Alert: this is a Triple Quirker!
1. you are limited to a maximum of 3 images per Section (instead of the usual 4)
2. you are also limited to a total entry of 10 images, spread around the Sections how you like
3. although entry is advertised as closing on 30 June, in fact they will close it as soon as the 3000th entry is received, whichever comes sooner.
Tactically speaking, what effect these discouragements have on the quality and quantity of the entries is debatable and so our advice is to press on regardless.
One outcome though is that the maximum cost is going to be a reasonable £15.
Previous results may be viewed back to 2015, ie all the previous editions.

Here to help . . .
Good luck

Rushden BPE National Exhibition - 2022

This closes on Sunday 17 April (recently changed from 10 April); acceptances count towards the BPEx* Distinctions.
There are 5 PDI sections (up to 1920 x 1080, 2.5MB maximum) : Colour - Mono - Nature - Creative - Scapes, maximum of 4 images per section.
£1.50 per image, £6 minimum (for 4)
Quirk Alert: note the very widescreen format of the image dimensions, it may give some images greater impact, eg triptychs and panoramas; just a thought. Last year was a maximum of 3 per Section, now back to 4. One of the Selectors is an NWPA member . . .
Don't forget to read the rules..
Good luck.

Robin Hood BPE National Exhibition - 2022

There are 6 PDI sections (up to 1600 x 1200) : Colour - Mono - Nature - Creative - Scapes - People, maximum of 4 images per section.
£1.50 per image, £6 minimum (for 4) - this makes this BPE a good choice economywise if you have just 1 or 2 entries for a particular section.
For the curious amongst you their website has the results for the last few years available.- you can view all the accepted images and award winners.
All entrants receive a printed colour catalogue and for the main award winners they have some beautiful glassware.
Quirk Alert: Please read the Terms and Condtitions, especially what is required in the individual sections particularly Scapes and Creative.. Good luck.

Neath BPE National Exhibition - 2022

This closes on Saturday 16 April; acceptances count towards the BPEx* Distinctions.
There are 4 PDI sections (up to 1400 x 1050, 3MB maximum): Colour - Mono - Nature - Creative, maximum of 4 images per section.
Postal entries are allowed. 1 section £12, 2 £14, 3 £16, 4 £18.
Quirk Alert: This used to be a quirkfree BPE but now it is the only one left which is 1400 x 1050 maximum.
Don't forget to read the rules, Good luck.

South Birmingham BPE 2022

This British National exhibition closes on Sunday 6 March (midnight).
Acceptances count towards the BPEx* distinctions.
There are 4 PDI sections (up to 1600 x 1200): Colour - Mono - Nature - Portrait
As in most exhibitions/salons you can enter up to 4 images per section.
Cost is per image (£1.50 each, subject to a minimum of £6 for the first 4) which keeps it reasonable if you haven't got 4 images to fill a particular section. Every entrant will receive an A4 printed catalogue.
Past results may be viewed on-line.
Quirk alert: all BPEs have their quirks - South Birmingham's quirk is that they are entirely quirkless . . . !
Don't forget to read the rules.
Good luck http://southbirminghamphotographicsociety.co.uk/exhibition

Vale of Evesham BPE

This British National exhibition closes on Monday 28 February 2022.
Acceptances count towards the BPEx* distinctions.
It has 4 PDI sections (up to 1600 x 1200): Colour - Mono - Nature - Experimental/Creative.
Last year's Acceptances may be viewed online.
Quirk alert: where to start? Put simply, they have their own software. Once you've done it it's easy of course but it's not intuitive.
After logging in and/or registering you gain an extended list of menu items on the LHS. When you go to "Add Images" there doesn't seem to be any way of choosing which Section they go in; don't worry, this menu item simply uploads your images either singly or in bulk.
Once you've Uploaded and Submitted you go to the menu item "Check Images": this is where you type your titles in (the system doesn't transfer the title from the filename) and where you allocate the Section, then you Submit again.
One (possibly minor) issue is setting the order in which your images are to be seen in the judging: some people aren't bothered but some are. Their system seems to want to put them in alphabetical order if you upload them in bulk; and so the solution is to add a 1, 2, 3 or 4 to the start of the filename (but not the title) which will put them in the order that you want.
If all this has put you off entering, remember that their software will be putting others off, which makes this a good one to persist with. This is why we pass all this stuff on to you, to help you. You can eventually thank us with alcohol if you wish . . .
Don't forget to read the rules.
Good luck.

5 PDI Sections (up to 4 images per section as usual): Colour - Mono - Nature - Creative - Scapes
JPGs only, size: 1600 x 1200 x 3MB max
Fee: £6 for first 4 Images, £1.50 per Image thereafter
Printed catalogue

Frome Wessex BPE

This BPE Salon closes on Sunday 31 October (midnight). Acceptances count towards the BPEx* Distinctions.
5 PDI Sections (up to 4 images per section as usual): Colour - Mono - Scapes - Nature - Creative. Something for everyone I would think in that lot.
JPGs only, size: 1600 x 1200 x 3MB max
Fee: £9 minimum which covers 4 Images, subsequent Images £1 each so could be quite economical if you can't fill a section.
Quirk Alert: The Mobile Phone section they've had for the last few years has been dropped.
As ever, read the Rules and Good Luck.

https://www.fromewessexcameraclub.com/salon.html

Dingwall BPE National Exhibition

After deciding not to run it last year it is a relief to see it back and it closes at midnight on Monday 4 October; acceptances count towards the BPEx* Distinctions.
PDI entry (up to 4 per Section): Colour - Mono - Nature - Landscape, 1600 x 1200.
£1 per image, £8 minimum (for 4 images) - this system is economical if you don't have enough Images to fill a Section.
Quirk Alert: In case you were wondering, Dingwall is in the north of Scotland, so far north that it's north of Inverness (which is very north), and so it is unlikely that you will be attending their Presentation if you gain an Award. Don't let that put you off though . . .
Don't forget to read the rules, Good luck.

Shrewsbury BPE National Exhibition

A reminder that this closes on Sunday 26 September; acceptances count towards the BPEx* Distinctions.

There are 4 PDI sections (up to 1400 x 1050 maximum): Colour - Mono - Nature - Landscape, maximum of 4 images per section.

£1.50 per image, £6 minimum (for 4 images) - this system is economical if you don't have enough Images to fill a Section. Catalogue is a PDF on CD sent to all entrants whether successful or not.
Shrewsbury is one of the closest BPEs to us geographically and so it is possible to attend in person if you need to collect an Award, Covid-19 restrictions permitting.

Quirk Alert: Timing. This closes at "Midnight". Shrewsbury has a bit of history with regard to "time" (they once closed at 12 noon rather than 12 midnight) and so I would enter by 11pm in case they're working to GMT rather than BST.

Don't forget to read the rules,
Good luck

Winchester BPE National Salon

This closes on Wednesday 30 June and Acceptances count towards the BPE Distinctions.
5 PDI sections: Colour - Mono - Nature - Creative - Scapes (3 images per section maximum)
As ever, check the Rules for what they are looking for in each category.
1920 x 1200 - note the widescreen format, could benefit some of your images.
£6 minimum (for 4) then £1.50 per image.
Quirk Alert: I will never cease to be amazed at the ingenuity that BPE Salon organisers use to introduce new quirks. Last time I described Winchester as having the "Quirkiest of Quirks to come out of Quirkdom" as they had made it a double Quirk - this year it's a Triple!

1. you are limited to a total entry of 10 images, spread amongst the sections how you like,
2. you are also limited to a maximum of 3 images per Section (instead of the usual 4).
3. although entry is advertised as closing on 30 June, in fact they will close it as soon as they have 3000 entrants, whichever comes sooner.
One outcome is that the maximum cost is going to be a reasonable £15.
Here to help . . .
Good luck.

Quirk Alert: Entries in the Scapes section are required to be from a 'single image'. Specifically, HDR, focus stacking, and stitched panorama techniques are allowed. In-camera multiple exposures are also allowed.
Don't forget to read the rules.

Guernsey BPE

This BPE Salon closes on Saturday 19 October, entry by post only (CD or memory stick), hence the better-then-normal advance notice. Acceptances count towards the BPEx* Distinctions.

4 PDI Sections: Open Mono - Open Colour - Portrait Mono - Portrait Colour

JPGs only, 1600 x 1200; if the image size is smaller than this it must be padded out to 1600 x 1200 with black (use Canvas in Photoshop for instance). Check the file-naming requirements.

Cost is £5.00 per Section, include a cheque with your entry.

Quirk Alert: actually this one is SuperQuirky what with the postal entry, a cheque, padding out and file-naming but its individual quirk is that there is only one Judge so there are no scores, you're either In or Out. The Judge on this occasion is Chris Palmer FRPS DPAGB APAGB EFIAP.

Despite all the Quirks this is a good one to enter. Why? Well, all these impediments are likely to discourage potential entrants; less determined photographers than those in North Wales will see it as too much trouble, so why not make the effort and give it a go.

The postage rate to Guernsey is the norrmal UK rate and postal Salons usually give a few days latitude on the Closing Date to allow for the vagaries of postal delivery.
